There is also a vehicle parade at 1300hrs, organised by the VAC. This event draws vintage & classic cars, coaches, commercials, bikes, military vehicles and if weather permit’s a good selection of aircraft so it is well worth a visit. STOLEN P6

"I would be very grateful if you could make you members aware of a (slightly sad, rather rusty) P6 2200SC that was stolen from my drive in the last 2 days. It has been off the road for 2 years and the reg is GRV 898N, vin no 4710601A, engine no 47104750A, mustard yellow colour, a previous owner had resprayed it Jaguar Greensand but underneath it is Rover Almond colour, with a black leather interior. It's monetary value is obviously small but I am angry all the same and would appreciate anybody looking out for it. If it was stolen for banger racing, it has a blown headgasket and won't run!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was parked outside a house in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

DRIVE IT DAY, 23 April 2006

The FBHVC, of which The Rover P6 Club is proud to be a member, have launched a new initiative to raise the profile of the historic vehicle movement through an annual “Drive It Day”.

FBHVC Committee Member Tony Beadle said “I thought St.George’s Day would be a singularly appropriate day to choose to celebrate the glorious variety of mechanised road transport heritage that we have in this country because on 23 April 1900, 64 cars set out from London on the first day of the famous Thousand Mile Trial – an incredible undertaking by those early motor cars and their pioneering drivers, and one which deserves annual celebration.”

The FBHVC wants all owners of licensed historic vehicles to use them on 23 April, which this year happens to fall on a Sunday. This will be a truly national event and one that everyone can take part in wherever they live. It’s absolutely free of entry forms, entry fees and red-tape.

As all enthusiasts know, FBHVC exists to uphold the freedom to use old vehicles. Without that freedom there would be little incentive to preserve them, and if that incentive was lost, so too would be a very large part of our national transport heritage. Drive It Day is part of FBHVC’s ongoing campaign to raise public awareness of the historic vehicle movement. “After all,” Tony Beadle asks, “what’s the point in fighting for a freedom if we don’t make the best possible use of it?”

The message to owners is: it’s not necessary to go to a show or take part in an event, FBHVC just wants you to get your old vehicle(s) out so they can be seen by the public. If the vehicle is suitable, use it instead of modern transport for your daily activity: use it to go to work (or, perhaps, church when 23 April falls on a Sunday, as it does this year), take a trip to the seaside, enjoy a day out in the country, visit a stately home or just go shopping. Those with unlicensed, older, larger or slower vehicles for which such use would be impossible, impractical or inappropriate can join in by getting their vehicles out and parking them on the drive where they can be seen.

February 11th 2006:

Coming up in the March 'Driving Force' one of the rarest P6's possible will be for sale - it is a complete resto project and the owner wants it to go to a good home for restoration rather than cannibalisation. Car will appear on the website in March, after circulation to Club Members due to it's unique nature. Non members - watch this space.

January 23rd 2006:

The Events page has been updated with an enormous amount of events for 2006.

November 17th 2005:

Out Club Secretary, Mark Gray has recently acquired what has now been confirmed by BMIHT to be the very last Rover P6B built (on the 19th March 1977) - VVC700S.

VVC was built, apparently as a one-off two weeks after production of P6B's finished, presumably to be kept as a museum piece (2200 production continued for a while more at Solihull after this date).

VVC was on display at Gaydon for ten years, and prior to this was stored at Studley Castle, parked alongside the Gas Turbine T4, but where else has it been?

Mark is interested to find out where this car, previously owned by Rover/BL Trust/BMIHT, has been, and when did it acquire the 12000 miles on the clock. It lived at Rover until 29th July 1977 where upon it was released to the Donnington Service Department, Leyland Vehicle Museum, Longbridge, but what then - where was she in the intervening years - 1977-1990, when the car was MOT'd.

Any memories, photographs of the Avecado Lady please to Mark.

November 10th 2005:

Here's the Rover P6 Club stand at the NEC at the huge NEC event at the beginning of November. A hugely successful weekend with lots of new members and lots of interest.

October 29th 2005:

As usual quite a few desireable vehicles for sale in the ever evolving adverts page.

See you at the NEC!

September 6th 2005:

For those who couldn't make the National Rally on Sunday 4th September (more news/pictures will be in the November edition of `Driving Force') - you will be aware an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Club was called to discuss a vital issue to the continuance of the Club.

It had been suggested that the RP6DC follow the example recently set by the Rover P5 Owners Club, who have rechristened themselves The Rover P5 Club, and shorten the Club name to The Rover P6 Club.

There are several reasons for doing this at this time - including: Modernisation - the Club was established in 1993 as an organisation geared towards people who use their cars everyday - in 2005 there are now, with the passage of time, very few daily runners left - with some very honourable exceptions. The principles of the Club will remain the same, there will be no other changes to the constitution (apart from the name change).

Regalia - we are ready to get new regalia in progress, our regalia officer is poised ready to roll, and if we are going to go for a name change now would be the time as stocks of existing regalia are very low.

It Makes Sense - we are always contacted by people asking if we are `The P6 Club', and we already have the www.p6club.com address for our website.

The Rover P6 Club is one of the very few classic car clubs with a rising membership, we love what we do, and our unique focus towards restoration rather than shiny concours winners makes more sense than ever in the 21st Century. Streamlining the name, so as not to appear to exclude people who don't own a P6 but have a general interest, or don't have a car on the road, makes a lot of sense.

The old regalia and car badges will not become redundant overnight. The changeover will be gradual in terms of regalia.

Club Secretary Mark Gray has done an excellent set of minutes fully explaining the move which has been released to the press and is featured in the new magazine which goes to press today.

26th July 2005

Victory was snatched from the grip of extreme weather conditions at the RP6DC/Rover Sports Register gathering at Nuffield Place, near Henley On Thames, on July 24th. Despite torrential and continual rain over most of the day, about 20 hardy diehards came out to support what, in the end, was a superb day out. Later in the day the rains stopped and sun made an appearance, leaving everyone to admire the splendid surroundings and splendid collection of classic and vintage Rovers on display. Thanks to all who came. The weather will be better for next year!

June 5th 2005:

A quick photo of the large RP6DC stand at the Woking Hospice Classic Car Show and Fayre today. Thanks to all who came.

This from ace photographer and all round good guy Matt Richardson

"On September 4th there is a rally with a (approx) 50 mile road run starting from the golf Hotel in Horncastle in Lincolnshire. Its been running a couple of years now with a better turn out every year and a good variety of cars and classic bikes, but only ever one P6 - Mine!

I always go as its run by Lisa's brother in law's parents to raise money for charity after he was killed in a bike crash, with money going to an Autistic kids charity and LIVES, the Fire Brigade benevolent fund.

I know its a bit out of the way for a car show but its not a bad day out and if they get enough of any make/model they add a prize category for it!

It would be great to have a line up of P6's up there

If anyones interested they can email me on matt.richardson@virgin.net

June 3rd 2005:

It's noticeable a lot of cars have sold as the results of adverts on this website recently. There are a lot of blank spaces where there were cars for sale on the adverts page. If you have a P6 Rover to sell now is a good time. Mail yours truly for more information.

The Road Run in Cheshire on Bank Holiday Sunday organised by our master planner Steve Benyon was a resounding success, with a good turnout and has been described in feedback I hear as 'fantastic'. Thanks Steve.

A couple of photos as a preview for full coverage in the July 'Driving Force'

Lineup

Five cars in motion!

January 18th 2005.

Firstly a quick warning - I've just spoken to one of our members who bought a three part fuel system cleaner from QVC - called Asta 3000.

Apparently this stuff has eaten the fuel lines and fuel pump on their P6B. It's obviously vicious enough in content to eat the plastic on fuel lines of classic cars.

I will be doing some enquiries with QVC in an effort to get a disclaimer on it and getting some advice from expert sources on this one.

Just don't go throwing something similar into your tank!

Updates to follow!

Secondly the adverts are live and running, updates going on almost daily. If you're not a RP6DC member and wish to sell your P6 mail me for more details - Nick Dunning

December 24th 2004:

Following P.O. Box problems over the last couple of months it has become nescessary to change the Club mailing address. The new address goes live from now and is:

The Rover P6 Drivers Club

P.O. Box 1477

WOLVERHAMPTON

WV10 8WZ

United Kingdom.

The old Walsall address will stay live for six months - all future mailing though etc. please to the new Wolverhampton address.

On behalf of the Committee I'd like to wish all our members and friends a Happy Christmas and a great New Year 2005. Happy Rovering!

November 26th 2004:

The RP6DC are in the news again, in three of the Classic Car publications on the shelves at the moment.

Classic Car carries a photo 'Joseph' - the Maurice and Clive Annable's multi coloured showstopper on our Club stand at the NEC in October, Practical Classics feature photos of our stand at the 2004 Great British Autojumble back in January where were changed the gearbox in Nigel Boothman's 2000, and Classics magazine shows photos of Team RP6DC rebuilding the front suspension of Matt Richardson's car at the NEC.

Next stop will the be the Great British Autojumble at the NEC on January 9th. See you there!

November 12th 2004:

Welcome to the Rover P6 Drivers Club Website. We are in the process of updating the site now - look for an extensive revamp/update over the next few months. We will shortly be reintroducing the popular adverts section and there will be lots of updates coming on what is happening in 'The Worlds Best Car Club' (Practical Classics, Jan. 2004).
