Rover P6 Drivers Club F.A.Q
dear rover p6 owners
drivers. Since 2 weeks i'm a proud owner of a '72 3500 P6. I love
this car, but there's some noise (klack, klack) in the front. I can't
find a cause of this noise. I changed the shock absorbers, checked
the wheel bearings and the steering. But no success. Maybe there's
someone who know's the problem.
Best regards from switzerland Martin Kropik martin@kropik.ch
I know its a long shot but does anyone know what happened to TJA 450 J (or 540) a green 3500 auto. It was my dads car when I was a child and it started me off on P6s. I dont expect it to still be around but someone must know its fate? Thanks. conormcloughlin@btinternet.com
Is it possible to fit a V8 engine to a 4 cylinder (2000TC) body?
What is the back axle ratio of the P6B? Are alternative ratios available?
Why is it thay everyone seems to favour the V8 cylinder opposed to a 4 cylinder?
I appreciate that the V8 is a bit more rapid, but with UK roads as they are now, what use is this went sitting in traffic?
I would have thought the the 4 cylinder cars would have a better re-sale value as the price of fuel in the UK surely favours the more economical 2000/2200 range.
I assume that servicing costs are also higher for a V8? Perhaps I'm missing something and someone can enlighten me?
with kind regards
David.
Q. How much
does it cost to join the club?
A. £14.00 for UK residents,
£17.00 for other european countries, £20.00 rest of world.

and follow the simple instructions.
Q. How can I
join the club?
A. You can use the online form to:
Join by credit/debit card
Fill it in and send it to
the club address (on form) with the correct payment in pounds
sterling, cheques etc OK.
If you can't print the form
send a message to Caroline
with your name and address and a form will be posted to you.
Q. I sent an
application form over two weeks ago and still haven't recieved
anything back. Is this normal?
A. It's not normal but it's not
unusual either. The club is run by volunteers and occasionally our
day to day lives and jobs get in the way of club business, we then
have to catch up. If you still havent recieved anything after 28 days
please let us know and we'll find out what's gone wrong.
Q. I can't
find the answer to my question, what shall I do?
A. E-mail your question here.
An answer will be posted here shortly.
Q. DOES ANY
ONE KNOW WHERE TO BUY A FLYWHEEL ROPE OIL SEAL REPACEMENT TOOL.THIS
TOOL ENABLES YOU TO REPACE THE SEAL WITHOUT TAKING THE CRANKSHAFT
OUT, ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE TO REMOVE MAIN CAPS. ITS CALLED CHINESE
FINGERS, APPARENTLY YOU FEED IT ROUND INSERT SEAL THEN PULL IT BACK.
I KNOW IT DOES EXIST BECAUSE A
PERSON I KNOW WHO RESTORES P5'S DID HAVE ONE BUT UNFORTUNATELY CANT
FIND IT CHEERS CARLO?
A. It should be available from a
Rover engine specialist try RPI.
They may be able to help.
Q. I
have been involved in racing Alfa Romeos for the last few years and
would like to know if you think there would be any interest in
setting up a championship for P6's?
After all there was a
"works" V8 P6 racer back in the sixties. I have received
some advice from the Chairman of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club about
organising championships.
Any body Interested?
If so feel free to give me a
ring, 01223 473034 desk (07712 212766 pocket), or e-mail me at pete.clark@ic24.net
A. Is this of interest to anyone
else? I'm certainly keen. Robert

In reference to the noise in the front end of your Rover P6B -
1. Check the mounting bolts on the steering damper/relay (these can
come loose if not properly torqued).
2. Check the bolts on the top plate of the steering box (dito).
3. Jack the front end and adjust the top steering box adjuster (
adjust until resistance is felt when moving the steering wheel then
back off adjustment 1/4 to 1/2 a turn and tighten jamnut).
4. Failing this start looking for a reconditioned steering box and/or damper/relay.
Many thanks to Rick Bateson for this reply.
A. Can anyone help Martin? If so please send a relpy to: martin@kropik.ch

Q.
Q. Is it possible to fit a V8 engine to a 4 cylinder (2000TC) body?
In theory it's possible but it would work out cheaper to buy a 3500. To fit the V8 engine to the P6 Rover moved the crossmember back, modified the inner wings and re-positioned the battery in the boot.
Q. What is the back axle ratio of the P6B?
3.08: 1.
Q. Are alternative ratios available?
The 1966 Rally cars had a 4: 1 ratio back axle, however they are unavailable. A popular mod is to fit a 2200 diff to the P6B ( 3.54:1 ratio with the same strengthening mods as the P6B diff)
Q. Is the axle man enough for any power upgrade?
The axle is reasonably strong, however the mounting bracket will need strengthening around the body mounts. A popular mod is to weld the spacer tubes in place.
Q. What is the fuel tank capacity of the P6B?
15 imperial gallons in old money or 68 litres in new.
Q. I have a P6 rover to which I would like to fit one of the now rare 'Triplex' glass roof. Also, I think the car would look nice with the optional wire wheels.
Would anyone know where either could be located (more especially the roof), and roughly how much they would be likely to set me
back!
